Slaves to a social scam (Who Are You?)

Who are you?
A person that is defined by the clothes you wear?
The latest car, latest watch, the style of your hair?
The fact that the world glorifies outward appearance is sad.
We are rated and categorized based on how well we perk our lips, raise our brow, and [snap]
You pause…
“Like”
“Like. Like. Like.”
“Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like”
Pops up on your screen.
You smile because this temporally raised your self esteem.
Don’t you know your worth?
Don’t you know you are a gem?
We have become slaves to a social scam.
We say “I don’t care what people think’…but are constantly worrying about what people think.
When will we realize the worlds opinion doesn’t matter.
How you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror is the only opinion that really matters.
Run away from the facade society created.
There’s more to you then the short skirt and heels.
Pick up your head, smile, and learn to love you.
You’ll never be happy if you wait for the validation of others.
You, my dear, are wonderfully and fearfully made.
You were created in Gods image.
Let me say that again….
YOU ARE WONDERFULLY AND FEARFULLY MADE.
YOU WERE CREATED IN GODS IMAGE!
The more you say it, the more you’ll believe it.
The more you believe it, the more you’ll see it.
So, Who are You?
YOU ARE a winner!
YOU ARE an overcomer!
YOU ARE a success!
YOU ARE beautiful!
YOU ARE smart!
YOU ARE a gem!
YOU ARE unique!
YOU ARE one of a kind!
YOU ARE more than a conqueror!
YOU ARE extraordinary!
YOU ARE an achiever!
YOU ARE fabulous!
YOU ARE dope!
YOU ARE kind!
YOU ARE fearless!
YOU ARE worth it!
YOU ARE worth loving!
YOU ARE more than enough!
YOU ARE destined for greatness!
YOU ARE fearfully and wonderfully made!
YOU ARE Gods masterpiece!

But first, let me take a selfie.

Let’s be serious. Let’s be real.  How many of us have taken a selfie and was actually satisfied with it on the first try? 1 selfie turns into 5. 5 turns into 20. Before you know it, you have just taken 50 selfies and you aren’t happy with any of them so you delete them all.  You look at yourself and nitpick.  You put yourself down.  You list things you don’t like when you see yourself.

My double chin is showing.

My hair is ugly.

Ugh. Look at my teeth.

Smh. Why is my forehead so big?!

Look at the way my eyes are shaped.

This pimple just had to pop up today.

Thanks for giving me this huge nose dad.

I never knew how big my head was.

The list goes on and on….

Then you muster up enough courage to take one more.  Finally. You get one.

You smile.

Okay. Now to find the perfect filter.

Let me ask you this, why are you putting a filter on a masterpiece? According to Merriam-Webster, masterpiece means a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship. There’s no need to alter something that has already been declared outstanding, perfect. How dare we insult God with a filter?  How dare we try to alter what He deemed an incredible work of art? If He is perfect and we were made in His image, doesn’t that make us perfect?

Guys, I know there are going to be days when we don’t feel our prettiest and aren’t satisfied with what we see.  But try to look at yourself through Gods eyes.  If you do this, you’ll realize that the first selfie that was taken was perfect all along.

You are beautiful. You are dope. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.  You are God’s masterpiece.

Let’s leave the filters for our mouths…lol. But seriously.

I love you. Thank you for reading.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

When I look into the mirror, what do I see?
A woman that’s put together so wonderfully.
I was phenomenally made by God.
Yes, cheerfully He created a masterpiece to display.
For His work to speak of His goodness each day.
Let His greatness be seen in me
May my life be rich in favor for all to see.
I could really care less about what people think about me;
I cant allow their words to determine my destiny.
For me to become enslaved to the words of society,
would be a total disappointment to the One who created me.
I walk with confidence because I know Who holds my future.
I’m on a quest.
I’m on a mission.
Lord, use me.
