When I grow up

Patience. Prayer.
Prayer. Patience.
Patience. Prayer.
Prayer. Patience.

I think I’m getting the hang of this.
I think I’m getting over my “I want what I want when I want it” attitude.

I think…

Oh boy. More prayer is needed.

We can’t worry and trust God

T R U S T  G O D
Even when it looks like all hope is gone.
Even when everything is going contrary to what you’re speaking.
When it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.
When you can’t see a way out.
When friends and family turn their backs on you.
When nothing makes sense.
When nights seem long.
When all you wanna do is cry.
When it’s hard to smile.
When it’s hard to get out of the bed in the morning.
When you feel like it’s getting worse rather than better.

Because truth be told, God is with you every step of the way. He said that He’ll never leave you nor forsake you. So, keep speaking. Keep believing. Keep trusting the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all of your ways acknowledge Him and He’ll direct your paths. He is making a way for you. All things are working together for your good. Don’t doubt. Don’t fear. Jesus loves you and He cares. Trust. Trust. Trust. He won’t let you fall! His glory will be shown. It’s not your job to understand/know how He’s going to do it, but its your job to TRUST that He’s going to do it. He’s not a man that He should lie. His word will not return unto Him void. He’s got you! Be still and know that He is God.

If you’re reading this and you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, there’s no better time like the present to invite Him into your heart and life. If you’d like to do this now, genuinely and sincerely pray this prayer…

Lord Jesus,
I truly believe that You are the Son of God. I confess that I have sinned against You and cannot save myself. Please forgive my wrongdoing and let me live in a relationship with You from now on. I receive You as my personal Savior and believe that You have died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead and are alive and can hear my prayers. I invite You to rule in my life and in my heart from this day forward. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You. Thank You for saving me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

whats on your mind?

As I grew up, there were certain songs I wasn’t allowed to listen to.  I didn’t understand why my parents were “torturing” me.  I knew why I couldn’t party “to the break of dawn”, but what was wrong with me listening to rap and r&b? All of my friends listened to it, therefore I just HAD to do the same. Little did I know, my parents knew just a little more than I did.  Who would’ve thought. lol.  To think they had more wisdom than I, a know it all teenager.

It wasn’t until I grew in my relationship with Christ that I gained an understanding of why I need to protect my ear gate…my spirit.  I’ll be the first to say that I’m that person who loves a good beat.  That moment you are listening to a song with a dope beat that causes you to make an “ugly face” and bop your head is gold. But there comes a time when we have to look past the beat and listen to the lyrics.

Since God placed this on my heart, I took a moment to reevaluate all of the music I listened to. How did the song make me feel? Who did I think about while listening to the song? There’s this one song, by a gospel artist, that didn’t lead me to Christ at all.  When I listened to it, it condoned my carnal thinking.   It didn’t connect me to Christ in any way. It didn’t challenge me to strengthen my walk with Him at all.  Have you taken a moment to listen to the lyrics of your favorite artist? Yes even your favorite gospel artist? I recommend you do. Half of these artist aren’t even mentioning the name of Jesus Christ anymore, nor pointing to Him in any way.  Let’s be mindful of what we put in our system.

Tunnel vision

As I sat down and thought about my life, I began to think about what my main focus has been. What have I been spending the most time doing? What have I been trying to accomplish? I began to become slightly annoyed because I felt like I haven’t accomplished a whole lot in this new year. Then in the next moment, a peace came over me and I was reminded of all the greatness and blessings that overwhelmed me. Although I am not where I want to be, I have come a long way. ALL THANKS TO GOD!!!!!

My current situation is just a small chapter in my life, it isn’t the end. So can I encourage you, and myself, not to loose sight of where we are headed. Now is not the time to get discouraged, dismayed, or loose the faith. God is within us. We can not fail. Greater is He that is within me than he that is in the world. I am more than a conqueror. God is about to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think. Keep the word in your mouth and keep moving forward. You got this! You can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. Keep the faith. You can and will do IT!!

Let me read my Bible and pray…10 minutes

Have you ever been to point where you close an app just to reopen it again? Or every time you unlock your phone, a social media app is the first thing you open? Yeah me too. And we wonder why we are so weak. We wonder why we can’t get a prayer through. We wonder why the troubles of the day/week have overwhelmed us. We have no power. We spend a few minutes of our day with the Source and expect Him to honor this. Negative! Now don’t get me wrong, social media alone isn’t bad. But when we decide to spend more time on it than with our Savior, that’s no good. We have now made it a god. We are now worshiping our phones/people.  When was the last time you took a break from social media? When was the last time you put your phone on silent and spent real intimate time with Christ? When was the last time you told him/her that you had to go because you had to get into your prayer closet?

Just like our phones, we need to be connected to a source to receive power. That source is Jesus. I challenge you and myself to spend more time in His presence. #ChallengeAccepted

God said “go” & I said “no thank You”

You ever have that moment in life when you feel like God is literally pushing you to do something and be something you just aren’t ready to do or be? Well, I am currently living this moment…it’s called growth. It all started three years ago when God said “go”.  I said “no thank You. not now”.  Again, I heard “Go”. and my response was “no”. Mighty bold of me, huh? Yes, I know. Some nerve I had!  But thank God for His grace and mercy!! After hearing Him say “GO” the third time, I reluctantly packed my car with all of my belongings, left my world, and drove 600 miles just to end up in the unknown.

Once I arrived at my destination, I unpacked my vehicle, sat on the edge of my bed, and started crying.  I mean balling like a baby!  I had no idea what was happening and WHY this was happening.  I had put on a front for most of my friends and family and acted like this was an awesome opportunity, but now while I alone, the pressure of all that had just taken place (all within a month might I add) overwhelmed me. Questions filled my head…Had I heard God correctly? What have I done? What is going on with my life?

I was 26 working a good job, with good benefits, had my own apt and car, wonderful friends, attending church regularly, trying to grow in my walk with Christ.   (*pause* as I wrote the last sentence, God showed me that the details of the sentence actually listed, in order, my priorities at the time. Wow! Yes, I put Christ on the back burner way too many times.) Anyway, I had more going on in between these things that I may or may not address in future posts.  But all in all, I was pleased with my life and as I think about it now, I understand every question that flooded my mind as I sat on the edge of the bed.

Little did I know, this move would be the second best decision that I made in life.

FYI…deciding to live my life for Christ was the first.

Stay tuned. To be continued…

a touchy subject

tears.

hurt.

pain.

screaming.

questions.

darkness.

headaches.

heaviness.

comfort.

joy.

laughter.

smiles.

hugs.

love.

peace.

these are the various emotions that happen throughout the course of a day. you know the day your loved one is put to rest. how can one possibly deal with such a wide range of emotions in a 12 hour period?

how? with the help of Jesus and their loved ones.

we have all experienced the death of a loved one at one point in life.  the one thing that keeps us going is the support of our family and friends.  we sometimes ask “what can I possibly do to console him/her?”.  i know the feeling. since i’ve been on both sides of the fence, i know a little bit (very little actually) of how to handle this unfortunate event.

the best thing you can do is pray for the family. God is the ultimate comforter.  there is no sorrow on earth that heaven can’t heal.

after prayer, just being there for them means the world.  even if you sit in silence.  for them to know that you’re available means the world to them.  knowing that you’re available for them to talk until their heart is content is needed. they may already feel lonely, so having someone there by their side to sit, talk, hug, comfort, watch movies, or just cry is a huge deal.

don’t take for granted how just your presence can make a whirl of a difference.

the next step is just as important….follow up!

don’t assume that just because it’s been a few months or even a year that that person is ok.  everyone heals at their own rate.  there will still be times when your “how are you feeling” or  “lets grab lunch” will mean everything to the person that lost a loved one.  be sure to keep in touch and offer a friendly smile more often than none.

for if any other reason….your day will come when you wished you had someone in your corner to do the same for you.

remember, its a blessing to be a blessing.

*this was written because ive heard at least 5 people that are connected to me somehow pass away this month.  death is a touchy subject, but i felt led to write about this subject tonight. i pray this helps someone. remember ….follow up.
